We meet every Monday, directly after school until 4:30pm! We follow the school's operating schedule so we do not have meetings if school is closed OR if the Monday falls on a Federal/State holiday.
We currently meet at the MC Presbyterian Church at the very bottom of Longhorn Hill! The kids can walk safely down to the church and be picked up there.
As a part of the ACTION Coalition, we are trained to provide drug education to our community's youth population. We give a comprehensive understanding of the risks of difference substances such as tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, nicotine, and opioids.
Positive mental health is considered a protective factor and has been proven to lessen the chances of youth turning to drugs and alcohol, so we like to discuss topics such as gratitude, thankfulness, kindness, and coping mechanisms!
The AYC Staff Leaders have been trained to facilitate Life Skills classes within the school system and have taken points from these lessons to implement them into the AYC meetings as well! These skills include topics like Teen Anger Management, Self Image and Confidence, Conflict Management, etc.
Part of successful leadership is the ability to plan, implement, and execute ideas with a team. That's what we do with fundraisers! Not only do our members raise funds for future endeavors, but we also guide them in taking accountability for how they fundraise and any money they accrue!
We have opportunities in the summertime to attend youth conferences, such as the TN Strong Youth Summit in Chattanooga! These are fun and educational conferences that help build further leadership skills and give our kids the chance to connect with other motivated teens from around the state!
We partner with various organizations to become involved in our community!
